The contribution of Minera Escondida to the economy of Chile and of the Antofagasta Region in particular has been significant in the past and continues to be so, as reflected by the following figures:
The accumulated investment of Minera Escondida in Chile as of December 31, 2006, amounted to US$ 5,637 million, and tax contributions to the Chilean treasury (First Category Income Tax, Additional Withholding Tax Paid On Owners’ Dividends, and Royalty) from Escondida and its owners amounted to US$ 5,676 million.
